The Space Education Council Executive

The Space Education Council is run by the Executive, which consists of a Chair and two Vice-Chairs.

The SEC Secretary is Sotira Trifourki, of the Association of Astronomy Education.

Chairman: Jerry Stone
JerryStone
Jerry is a freelance presenter on astronomy and space exploration.

He is a Fellow of the
British Interplanetary Society and the Royal Astronomical Society, a Director of the Mars Society UK and the Sir Arthur Clarke Awards.

He has given talks about space since 1969 when he was at school. He travels across the UK, providing a range of public presentations on topics from the Earth and Moon to the edge of the Universe; from the exploration of the Moon, Mars and Saturn to extra-terrestrial life and the threat of near-Earth objects.

He also presents workshops on astronomy and space for schools, scouts & guides, and other youth organisations. They include activities such as pacing out the solar system using a set of inflatable planets; solar observing; making and launching rockets; and measuring the size of the Earth - using a 1-metre rule!

Vice-Chair: Rod Stevenson
RodStevenson
Known as "Rocket Rod", he teaches at Costessey High School in Norfolk. He has been a teacher for 10 years, following a career in the IT industry. He is a member and safety officer with the United Kingdom Rocketry Association (UKRA) and a member of the Association of Science Education. He is a keen amateur rocketeer and runs a successful rocket group in his school.

He has helped with a number of space events and appears regularly on local radio and TV programmes. he has worked as an educational advisor to the National Space Centre in leicester, advising on the design of their new gallery. He was a member of one of the consultation groups set up by Prof. Martin Barstow to formulate his 2005 report into space education in the UK.

He has a particular interest in promoting and developing space and rocketry education in schools, and is available to run INSET training in rocketry in schools.

Vice-Chair: Victoria Reid
VictoriaReid
Victoria is the Chair of UKSEDS (UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space).

She is studying Aerospace Engineering with Astronautics (MEng) at Kingston University, where she is in her final year. She took a year in industry where she worked at LogicaCMG on the Galileo project, and studied at CalPoly in the USA for a semester.

She is also a student member of the British Interplanetary Society, The Royal Aeronautical Society and the Mars Society UK.
