The
SEC, through Spaceflight UK, offers a range of workshops on
astronomy and space exploration. They include a mixture of
presentations and activities suitable for both primary and
secondary schools, as well as for scouts, guides and
brownies, and other youth organisations.
Topics
and activities include:
The
Solar System - Pacing out the planets
The study of the Sun - Making sundials - Making pinhole
cameras
Solar observation using projection, solar filters and a
Coronado solar telescope
Rocket workshops - Making and launching pop rockets and air
rockets
Making a planetary lander: The "Eggs Prize" - A Mars rover
simulator
The "Moon Hoax" - The International Space Station
Measuring the size of the Earth, using a 1-metre rule!
These workshops are presented by SEC Chairman Jerry Stone
(trading as Spaceflight UK).
You can choose the combination of classes and activities.
Alternatively, select a multi-activity themed workshop; You
can currently choose from "Space
Is Big!"
and "Mission
To Mars"
- a particularly timely session as NASA's Phoenix craft is
due to land on Mars on May 25.
Inclement weather is catered for, and costs include all
materials.
